News:
Garda Callinan and Mr. Shatter:
To me, this seems a tad misdirected. Am I wrong to think that it's normal practice for Gardai to be eavesdropping on conversations? Is it not protocol? Also, surely any information gleamed from conversations involving the accused and their defence team be inadmissible in court?
Mr. Callinan's behaviour and Alan Shatters' handling of the affair leaves an awful lot to be desired. Mr. Callinan's description of whistleblowers gleaming of the information as "disgusting" left him wide open to calls for him to withdraw the term. The question I would like answered is whether he felt the whistleblowers were "disgusting" for gleaming the information or was it the use of the information in the public domain was "disgusting". Was it ok for Gardai to know what was happening as long as they didn't tell anyone?
Mr. Shatter is having a hard time staying out of the news. Co-incidence? I find it hard to believe he didn't know what was in reports on an affair that's running since November. If he genuinely didn't, then he's not doing much good as a minister.
Enda and His mobile number:
It seems that Enda has taken on a new role as a rival to Joe Duffy! The man of the people, taking calls from the people and working for the people. Not that we are being cynical, but anyone who gets anything concrete done is free to contact us!
Company Ambulances:
The details of last week's primetime are of a shocking nature. That rapid response vehicles may not be available because managers use them a personal company car is downright wrong. That only 1 in 3 people with life threatening conditions were responded to is an indication of how badly the health service is being run. We, as tax payers, are being badly short changed by Government after Government. We don't have the health service our hard earned tax should be used for. It's amazing that we can pay off buckets of cash for lads who liked to gamble, but we can't find the cash to improve a health system that's on it's knees.
Charities need help:
Speaking of the above, it came to my attention that Crumlin Hospital is down 4 million in donations this year alone due to the charity scandals of the last few months. Hospitals like Crumlin, Temple Street shouldn't need charity as any self respecting government would fund them. But where would one find one of those around here? Children's hospitals need help and please be generous in your donations to them. Only we can help sick kids who don't deserve to be made suffer for others selfish actions.
Sport:
Leinster hold the upper hand:
Leinster were full value for the their hard earned victory over Munster. However, they can't afford the indiscipline of the first half next week in France. Munster have closed the gap significantly, and now need to find a "dancing" centre. Casey Lualala must be desperately frustrating to play with. You just never know what kind of a pass he's going to give. If any! One question that I need answering is how Jamie Heaslip didn't see yellow in the first half? It seemed a stonewall sinbin.
Davy may meet his match yet:
Davy against Cody. The Cats against the Banner. Sounds good, doesn't it? Galway may have something to say about that yet, but it would be a cracking game. Davy's courtship of the media may come against him yet. I know Davy only woos the media to keep the spotlight off his players (!), but it has allowed the Cats to regain their mojo, while being low-key. Beware a focused Cats with Cody driving them on.
The Nash Rule:
The furore over Anthony Nash and his long strides makes us laugh. Would it be such an issue if an outfield player was doing it? Or is it because Goalies have harder shots?
The Foreign TV shilling:
One question about selling off the family jewels to those nasty people in Sky. Do we believe RTE and TV3 get the games for free? Surely who pays for the rights is immaterial and they are still being paid for. Where is that money going?
Liverpool are top of the table:
Top of the table and playing the best football in the top 3. It's amazing how much Liverpool have improved considering their summer signings aren't getting much game time. Question for United fans: Your preference for winning the league? City or Liverpool? Admit it, it's got to hurt!!
Spare a thought for:
Any hurling fan who follows both Manchester United and Munster rugby. Beaten by Leinster; United win giving Moyes some more time, Bayern to come, and Liverpool top of the league! And then Davy and Tipperary both win. Not such a "Super Sunday"!!
